When I think of the ‘wellness’ concept in terms of brands, I often get intimidated. The pandemic caused a lot of people of diverse backgrounds to focus more on their wellness. And of course, the brands jumped right on the bandwagon, turning wellness into a trend. However, as trendy as it became, I still feel like the industry became secluded and exclusive. White wellness being on one said. Black wellness, being on the other. Now in terms of small business, this makes sense, for both parties definitely have different wellness needs. My disappointment lies with the bigger brands. Noone saw this division and felt the need to fill in the gap, that is at least until nécessité came.
Celebrity-owned wellness brands in particular are often very niche-based, in turn catering to an audience with a particular demographic. For me, being interested in these luxury wellness brands felt like asking for a seat at a table I’m not invited to. But nécessite feels different. It feels inclusive and organic yet still luxurious. The brand gives real-life tips for every woman. They’re not forcing a product on you, saying that “you have to use this product or method to have great skin.”
The founder, Erica Reid, is one of the humblest people you’ll ever meet. She truly cares about making every woman feel good; mind, body, soul, and spirit. She’s on a mission to bring wellness back to its humanly roots. And that’s what I love most about her. It’s so refreshing to see a woman of her stature build such an authentic brand.
