She’s raw. She’s real. She’s unique. And that is why we chose Doechii as this week’s rising artist. Doechii started out as a YouTuber, posting a variety of content including music and vlogs. Her artistry began to develop when she released her first single “Girls” in 2018, as well as the single “Spookie Coochie” in 2019. In July 2020, She released Doechii’s Coven Music Session, which featured a series of songs that were previously uploaded to her Youtube. This project set the stage for her groundbreaking official debut EP, “Oh the Places You’ll Go”, which featured her breakout single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake”. This EP is by far one of our favs’. It highlighted Doechii’s raw talent and authenticity.
In 2021 Doechii released ‘mini-tape’ Bra-Less, where her 2018 single “Girls” ultimately appeared on. Doechii also made an appearance on Isaiah Rashad‘s The House is Burning, contributing a verse on the album’s third single “Wat U Sed”, which also featured Kal Banx. This track is by far a masterpiece. They also had one of the best performances at the 2021 BET Awards.
In conclusion, IamDoechii’s artistry has continued to elevate over the years. She’s killing the indie seen. And Although she’s a rapper don’t doubt her singing voice. Doechii knows who she is and is very grounded, which is evident in her music. She’s an inspiration to other young black women in the creative space. IamDoechii is a force to be reckoned with.
